Fortune Island: Pocket Size Greece of the South

An extremely stunning island with pristine white sand and an Acropolis with Grecian pillars and statues on the edge of the island overlooking the blue sea.

Can you guess where I am?

If you haven't been here before, you might guess and say : Athens, Greece?? Absolutely not! It is in Fortune island. Situated in one of the captivating island of the coast of Nasugbu in Batangas. It is a mere two and half-hours to three hours’ drive from Manila.

Batangas is popular to beach-lovers, beach-bums, scuba divers and adventure-seekers because of its aquatic wildlife, rock formations and pristine waters. I've already seen a lot of different beaches here in Batangas but I must admit that this island is definitely different. It has it's own unique beauty that beckons tourists. It's like Anilao and Calatagan in one patch of island. Fortune island has the turquoise water of Anilao and the creamy sands of Calatagan.

Fortune island is a 27 hectare resort island long, owned by the former governor of Batangas, Jose Antonio Leviste. The islands’ main features are the Greek inspired structure of Acropolis in Athens standing at the edge of a cliff but upon seeing the structure I was a bit saddened, I could tell that it might not last for another decade because the pillars are quickly deteriorating from rusts and cracks. The island has long been abandoned. I only could imagine how the resort looked like during its pristine condition and that it could even rival other expensive resorts like Balesin and Amanpulo if only it wasn't shut down in 2006. Unfortunately the whole place is now totally wrecked but did not diminish the natural beauty of it. The resort is still attractive despite of the abandonment.

Things to do in the Island

– Swimming
– Cliff jumping
– Snorkeling
– Photo ops at the Greek inspired structure of Acropolis

Important Reminders

– There’s no water source in the island
– Bring your personal drinking water
– No bathroom nor working toilets
– Make sure your toiletry kit's well packed
– The heat is intense so load up with extra protection (lotion, suncreen, shades, umbrella etc..)
– Be prepared for some roughing it and some camping if you want to stay overnight.

Cliff  Diving! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

If you are the type of person who craves for adventure, Fortune island can definitely satisfy you.

  1. Amazing. It is really nice to visit this place. Honestly this kind of place in Batangas makes me feel the necessity to buy a house for sale in Batangas.
